The Kathy Koziol Maternal Mental Health Fund.

Kathy Koziol was the longtime office manager here at Child Health Partnership. Her dedication and passion for our work was formidable. In honor of her passing we have created the Kathy Koziol Maternal and Mental Health Fund.

Support for Child Health Partnership is vital because it directly impacts maternal mental health and the well-being of mothers during both the prenatal and postpartum periods. According to current statistics:

  • 1 in 5 women report mental health concerns, making it the most common complication in pregnancy and birth.

  • Postpartum depression impacts 1 in 8 women in the first year after giving birth.

  • When Birth Sisters of Charlottesville asked mothers of color in the Blue Ridge Health District which resources or items they wished they had more access to (including diapers, wipes and other tangible goods), they stated emotional support.

When children’s health needs are met through accessible care, vaccinations, nutrition, and developmental support, mothers experience reduced stress and anxiety. In turn, programs that integrate child health with maternal mental health services ensure that mothers receive the emotional, medical, and social. Support they need to navigate pregnancy and early parenthood-critical periods that shape lifelong outcomes for both mother and child.
